A resident who dumped two doors in a ditch just around the corner from the Chalvey Waste and Recycling Centre, instead of paying a small fee for disposing of them at the tip is being issued with a fine for fly-tipping. The Slough resident came to the Chalvey site in October with three internal doors in his Audi A3 and was advised he could tip one door for free but would be required to pay for the other two. After refusing to pay and leaving the free door, he left the site, went around the corner to Spackmans Way and dumped the other two doors into a ditch. After the first door, internal doors are currently £3.20 per door to tip at the site – a total, in this case, of £6.40. The driver is being tracked by the council’s enforcement team and will be issued a £1,00 fixed penalty notice. Councillor Ejaz Ahmed, lead member for public protection, said: “Refusing to pay £6.40 to dispose of two doors and instead choosing to fly-tip and end up with a fine which is more than 150 times more expensive is almost too ridiculous to believe – but this is what we are dealing with on a regular basis. “The vast majority of household waste can be tipped for free at Chalvey Waste and Recycling Centre, and even with DIY waste there is an amount that is free before any charges kick in. “People may not like paying to dispose of certain items at our centre but the cost of choosing to fly-tip is much much higher. We will find you and fine you.” A fixed penalty notice is a fine for £1,000 which is reduced to £500 if paid within 14 days.
